An interesting showdown between two conference rivals and a pair of top ten teams is set for Monday night in Ohio, when the Ohio State Buckeyes meet the Iowa Hawkeyes.
The Buckeyes are one of college basketball’s greatest teams right now. Granted, it’s not difficult to say that as one of only three undefeated teams in the country. Ohio State roared out of the gate this season, defeating No. 4-ranked Tennessee in their season opener, and hasn’t looked back since. They have also defeated ranked opponents, including Louisville, Oregon, and Michigan. Following an 84-54 victory over Northwestern on Thursday, the Buckeyes hold a one-game lead in the Big Ten, headed by the exceptional Taylor Mikesell, who averages 18.6 points per game.
Iowa hasn’t been a team to underestimate. Coming into Monday night ranked No. 10 in the AP polls, the Hawkeyes, along with Indiana, are chasing Ohio State in the conference standings. They got an extra day of rest than the Buckeyes, as Iowa defeated Michigan State 84-81 in overtime last Wednesday, giving them their fourth consecutive win since losing to Illinois earlier this month. Iowa has won ten of its previous eleven games, but is only 2-2 versus top 25 opponents this season.
